San Vicente National High School conducted an activity about an earthquake drill held at the ground on July 5, 2012 at exactly 7:30 a.m in the morning. All the SVNHS student’s, Teachers and Faculty members participated the said event.

Knowing what to do during an earthquake can save your life. Practicing what to do makes the proper response easier to remember and faster to accomplish. Any problems with planned responses

can be identified and corrected. Earthquake drills are the most important type of preparedness and they cost nothing to do. The purpose is to help students (and staff) learn how to react immediately and appropriately at the first indication of ground shaking. Students (and staff) should know where to seek shelter, how to protect themselves, and what to do immediately afterwards.

TYPES OF DRILLS:

Classroom Drill - this drill is conducted by the teacher with their own class of students. It is recommended monthly.

Drop, Cover, and Hold

o In the Classroom - when students are working at their desks.

o In the Classroom - when students are NOT working at their desks.

o In the library, computer lab, playground (elementary), between classes (secondary schools), or other area.

o If you hold it in the lunchroom, DO NOT evacuate to the outside.

Evacuation to the outdoor emergency assembly area

o Easiest, most direct route.

o Secondary route due to blocked passages or exits. (Put a barrier over one of the doors.)

Simulations:

Use earthquake tape to simulate the sounds of earthquakes.

Use a written narrative, which the teacher reads, to explain what is happening.

Exercise with aftershocks while in classroom.

Exercise with aftershocks while exiting the building.

Exercise with missing students or teacher.

Exercise with wounded students or teacher.

Exercise with trapped students or teacher.

School-wide Drill - This drill includes entire school, including office personnel, maintenance, lunch staff, ALL VISITORS, etc. This drill is recommended once a year.

Everyone must duck, cover, and hold.

Everyone must evacuate to the outdoor emergency assembly area.
